Abstract
Background:
@EN In the army, physical strength and health of soldiers are most important factors for adequate action of duties. Also, we used to call that physical strength is national power. All men in KOREA are obligated to enter army, therefore individual
physical strength and health of army are important relationship to people's. But until now, about physical strength of health in army is not investigated. We investigated to know that changes of the body mass index, body fat, grasping, back and
leg
muscle power as physical strength in indices, and the serum lipoprotein levels as health indices after 5wks army training in recruits.
@ES Methods:
@EN Fifty-nine recurits conducted between March 9 and April 11, 1992 measuring changes in physical strength, and serum lipoprotein levels in response to 5 wks army training were analyzed. Subjects divided lean, normal and overweight groups.
Experimets
were carried out after overnightfasting of subjects.
@ES Results;
@EN Body mass index increased(p<0.001) in lean, decreased(p<0.001) in overweight, and no changed in normal group after 5 wks army training. Left grasping power increased(p<0.05) slightly in lean subjects only. Back muscle power increased(p<0.001)
in all
subjects, Leg muscle power increased all subjects(lean, normal and overweight groups, p<0.01, p<0.001,and p<0.001, respectively). Serum cholesterol had tendency to decrease in lean, and decreased(p<0.001) in normal and overweight groups.
HDL-cholesterol
had tendency to increase slightly. Triglyceride had tendency to increase in lean, and decreased(p<0.05) in overweight subjects.
@ES Conclusion:
@EN Above results showed in recruits after 5 wks army training that body mass index and body weight is going to ideal states, and that back and leg muscle power increased, but not grasping power, and that lowered serum cholesterol and
triglyceride
in
normal and overweight subjects suspected to prevent cardiovascular disease containing coronary artery disease.
